What information do I need to create a citation?
Answer
To cite a source, you usually need to have the author/creator, date, and where it can be found (in a book, journal, etc...). From there, you can use that information to create a citation in the style specified by your Instructor (like APA, MLA).
- Sometimes some information about a source may not be available. When this happens, you must still create a citation using whatever is known about the source of the information. Check a reference guide for the correct way to do so.
- Different types of sources may be referenced in different ways. For example, a citation for webpage looks different than for a book. Again, check a reference guide to see how to format citations for various types of information.
- Make sure that you'll keeping track of the information from all of your sources so you can cite them correctly.
- For more information on citing sources, visit the Citing Sources section of the Libraries' website.
